The Upcoming UPG conference, “Medical Cannabis: The Science Behind the Hype,” will feature a presentation by Dr. Dustin Sulak on Endocannabinoid Physiology and Clinical Applications of Cannabis.
Why does one plant—cannabis—heal so many different ailments? Because some chemicals found in cannabis, known as cannabinoids, bind with receptors in the body’s endocannabinoid system, which works to maintain stability in the body despite external changes. When a body is ailing, the cannabinoids encourage the endocannabinoid system to re-balance and heal. Understanding this system is essential to discovering how to use cannabis to better treat a wide range of illnesses, and Dr. Dustin Sulak is dedicated to doing just that.
We invited Dr. Sulak to speak at our upcoming conference, “Medical Cannabis: The Science Behind the Hype,” because he is one of the world’s most knowledgeable practitioners of cannabinoid medicine. He is the founder of Integr8 Health, LLC, an integrative treatment center in Maine.
“The endocannabinoid system, with its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and all of the body’s organs, is literally a bridge between body and mind,” Dr. Sulak has written. “By understanding this system we begin to see a mechanism that explains how states of consciousness can promote health or disease.”
Dr. Sulak is an integrative medicine pioneer with a focus in osteopathy, mind-body medicine, and medical cannabis. Dr. Sulak, a diplomat of the American Academy of Cannabinoid Medicine, received undergraduate degrees in nutrition science and biology from Indiana University, a doctorate of osteopathy from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed an internship at Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency. Mentored by Andrew Weil, MD, during his training, Dr. Sulak focuses on treating refractory conditions in adults and children with a variety of safe conventional and alternative therapies in an individualized, health-centered approach.
Dr. Sulak has also been active in cannabis law reform and public education since 1997, recognizing the immense social, economic, health, and environmental benefits this plant has to offer.
Dr. Sulak is the founder and medical director of two integrative health centers that treat over 15,000 patients with medical cannabis. He has helped set the standard for the safe use of medical cannabis in a wide variety of conditions, lectures nationally to medical providers and patients on the appropriate use of medical cannabis, and continues to explore the therapeutic potential of this ancient yet emerging trend in medicine.
At the conference on November 1, 2014, Dr. Sulak will present on the physiology of the endocannabinoid system and how to use to cannabis to activate the natural healing powers of the system. Join us at Dominican University of California in San Rafael, California, to discover what Dr. Sulak has discovered about cannabinoid therapy.
The conference is aimed at medical professionals (and offers CEUs*), but we encourage patients, caregivers, industry professionals, lawmakers, and anyone who’s curious to join us.
